邀以巴和谈 批美不给力 学者:中国想做中东调停人,难![Inviting Israeli-Palestinian peace talks to criticize the United States and not give mechanics: China wants to be a mediator in the Middle East, it is difficult!]
VOICE OF AMERICA
…Guy Burton, an adjunct professor of international affairs at Vesalius College in Belgium, told VOA that China’s role as the rotating chairman of the Security Council and the increasingly fierce global competition between the United States made China this time about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His remarks have received more attention than ever before, but the possibility that China will truly become a peace mediator in the region is very low and it is constrained by multiple interests.
…Burton, a professor at the Visalius College in Belgium, told VOA that in theory, China can bypass the United States and take independent actions to try to prevent the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from deteriorating, or through diplomatic channels to carry out outreach work that is conducive to reconciling the conflict. There is no indication that China is doing these things.
…"Part of the reason is that China prefers to use formal frameworks and international organizations such as the United Nations to achieve mediation goals," Burton said. "From the wars in Syria, Libya, and Yemen, to the Iran nuclear agreement, China has adopted this approach."
Since the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party, supporting the "Asian, African and Latin American National Liberation Movement" has always been the strategic position of the Chinese Communist Party. Mao Zedong also personally instructed to support the Palestine National Liberation Movement. Burton pointed out that China has always expressed its political sympathy for the Palestinian national liberation cause in public. In the Security Council statement this time, China apparently made tougher criticisms of the Israeli attack.
…"This commercial relationship (between China and Israel) is much more important than anything that Palestine can provide to China," Burton told VOA. "Perhaps because of this, it is difficult to see China's actions toward Israel. A confrontational approach, putting these economic opportunities and investments of oneself at risk."
Burton also pointed out that if China really actively intervenes in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it is likely to further aggravate tensions between the United States.
